The BRCGS Packaging Materials Global Standard was first published in 2001 and is now used by almost 6000 sites in over 35 countries globally. It helps a site or operation to demonstrate they are providing products that are quality assured, legally compliant, and authentic. The first to be recognised by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), BRCGS Packaging Materials is now in its 6th edition and has become the global industry benchmark. It is not only used by food packaging producers but also by producers of packaging for all applications, across the supply chain. A key reason for its success is that it specifies the product safety, quality and operational criteria required, so a site or operation can fulfil its obligations, from legal compliance through to protection of the consumer.

The revision and evolution of our Standards are at the heart of our work. By reviewing our standards, we can ensure that they incorporate latest industry trends and operations, practical experiences, and best practices from industry. The revision process enables us to take into account the changing expectations, regulatory requirements, and customer needs. It provides the opportunity to build on the value that our customers and stakeholders gain from the use of our Standards.

TECHNICAL WORKING GROUP - EXPRESSION OF INTEREST

Deadline: 15 December 2023

To support this revision, and to comply with GFSI benchmark requirements it is essential we include the correct stakeholders with the relevant expertise from across all the relevant sectors of the packaging supply chain. This includes manufacturers, retailers, specifiers, trade associations, accreditation bodies, certification bodies, auditors, trainers, technical experts etc.

Ideally, we should have expertise from the different packaging categories including glass, plastic – rigid and flexible, paper, metal, other manufacturing types, print processes and chemical processes.

The first Technical Working Group will take place on 17 January 2024. It will last approximately 6 hours and will be virtual. All subsequent meetings will also be virtual, and are currently planned to take place during February, March, April and June, at a regular 2–3-week frequency, with a total of 7 meetings planned. We will expect attendees to attend at least 90% of meetings.

  • If you are interested in supporting this important rewrite project, please complete the Expression of Interest form by 15 December 2023 so that we may consider your application. You will be notified if you are successful.
